ABOUT

why art?

I don’t know who I would be without art. It’s the crevices in my hands and the pink in my lips. It’s the constant part of me that I could never go without. It’s the paint on my clothes and stains on my hands. Like a hole in my chest, without art I would know in the depths of my soul that a part of me is missing. Since the first scribble as a baby, it’s been a little twinkle of ease as I look back through my days. It stirs in my every breath; lights up my every thought. Art is the way of looking around and seeing beauty. It’s the moment between each doubt when our world is filled with whimsy. It’s when something mundane can be made into a masterpiece. Art is the reason I can believe that I’ll be okay in the future. The reason I can let go is because it shows me what peace is. Within each brushstroke nothing else in the world matters. I can’t think about my latest worry or judgment. All of my focus is on the swift movement of color. That small piece of my life that I couldn’t belong more in. Art will always be a part of me, always has been.

artistic process

When it comes to creating, I don’t think much of the materials, but what feels right. Art is simply the creation of something beautiful; its many parts reach out into life becoming a piece of every moment. Some moments, I’m drawn to this scene, possibly in oils. While others, I can feel it in my bones to create this marvelous structure out of clay. Whichever way I go, I trust it will all work out in the end, because the creation felt right. And who knows, maybe someone will like it.
